Hansa Photography
``To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” - Elliot Erwitt.

My name is Mikail Hansa
I’m a photographer

My passion for photography was ignited at the age of 14, when I got my first Point and Shoot Pentax camera and joined the Kearsney College Photographic Society. It’s been impossible to put a camera down ever since and has provided me with years of experience.

My dance with photography actually started in front of the camera at age 21, when I began a professional modelling career, appearing in print and television media. Working with various stakeholders in front of the camera has given me a greater understanding and insider’s perspective of what’s required to make a photo shoot a success behind the camera.

My passion for photography is matched by my sense of adventure and wanderlust. I’ve embarked on photo-shoot assignments up Mount Kilimanjaro, snorkelling through the Great Barrier Reef, scuba diving with sharks at Seal Island in Cape Town, bungee jumping from Bloukrans Bridge, paragliding through the Drakensberg Mountain Range, and hot air ballooning in Argentina. Cycling the Cape Argus, the 94.7 Challenge, and running the 2 Oceans Marathon has helped fuel my competitive edge.

My photography assignments take me to some of the most exotic locations the world has to offer. The unique opportunity of meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures has broadened my perspective on life and enhanced my photographic techniques & expertise.

To satisfy my love of “flying & being in the air”, I pursued my private pilot’s license at 43 Air School in Port Alfred, which has expanded my knowledge of the world I have to capture. This then led me to take up aerial photography and the quick way out of the aircraft – skydiving!

I developed my photographic skills by attending various photographic workshops and exhibitions to learn the latest techniques, including courses at the International Center of Photography in New York and the College of Digital Photography.

My camera is always at hand, and I’ve been fortunate in capturing prized moments with many global personalities on my travels such as: Nelson Mandela, the Queen Mother, George Bush, Richard Branson, Quincy Jones, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, Naomi Campbell, Kingsley Holgate, the King of Ghana and ex Bafana Bafana Coach, Alberto Pereira.

I believe the best results are gained from creating a relaxed and comfortable working environment, whether in the studio or on location.  My services are tailored to your individual needs and building lasting relationships with my clients is a primary goal.
